Feeling Sick? There’s a WebMD App for That

There seems to be an app for everything these days. So why wouldn’t there be an app to help you when you’re sick? The popular WebMD website has joined the app craze and come out with a WebMD app for Android and iPhones.

People who care for their elderly family members suddenly have to take on a lot of roles they didn’t anticipate. Some of these roles include:

• Financial expert
• Legal consultant
• Cook
• Maid
• Taxi driver
• Nurse

While we don’t mean you will take these on in the official, licensed sense, you have to wear many hats.

That last role is what we would like to talk about today. Often family caregivers have to figure out what is going on with Mom or Dad. There are many questions family members may ask.

Is their issue worth calling a doctor or an ambulance?

What might be causing the problem?

Did my parent take their medications as prescribed?

You don’t want to call your doctor or other medical professional with every question. Fortunately, these days ‘there’s an app for that’.

If you’re caring for a loved one, you may have seen the website WebMD. It is a very popular website with lots of medical information for people. They even have a WebMD magazine with interesting health topics.

Now they have put out a WebMD app that can really help people caring for elderly people. The WebMD app for Android and iOS devices is available in their respective app stores. The app is free to download.

The app has a bunch of features that can really help with seniors at home:

• Symptom Checker – You can tell the WebMD app which body part hurts, and what the symptoms are. Then the app will give you some recommendations
• Conditions – If you know what is wrong and want to learn more about the issue, you can plug the name into the database. The app is full of medically-reviewed information that can tell you about underlying causes, symptoms and treatments.
• Drugs and Treatments – Another database. But hey that beats remembering everything! This feature lets you search the drugs prescribed to your family member. It tells you how the drug or treatment is used, dosages, and any side effects or warnings you should know about.
• Pill Identification Tool – If you see some loose medication lying around, you can enter the shape, color and/or imprint identification of your pill. Then the app will help you identify what kind of medication it is.
• Local Health Listings – No matter where you travel with your elderly parent or relative, you can easily search up medical facilities (physicians, hospitals, pharmacies etc.) near you.

The app also has reminders to make sure your loved one takes their medications on time. This can be especially helpful if you have your loved one wear an Apple Watch. Then it will tap them when it’s time to take the pill and display on the watch exactly what to take.

Or you can wear the watch and receive the alerts as well.

Although seniors are not big tech fans usually, some tech can go a long way in helping them out. And just as important it can go a long way in helping their caregivers out!
