Climate

Goodyear AZ boasts around 300 days of sunshine a year and a temperature that rarely falls below 40 degrees. Not only does that mean you can head out and enjoy many outdoor activities, seniors can keep their Vitamin D levels up to stay healthy. Just going outside is one of the great things to do in Goodyear AZ.

Scenery

People who live in Goodyear have a beautiful view of the Estrella Mountain range just west of the town. There are a lot of hiking trails and outdoor activities in the Estrella Mountain park. And there are some spectacular sunsets over these mountains. You can enjoy some great hiking as one of the things to do in Goodyear AZ.

In addition there is quite a selection of Grocery stores including Safeway, Fry’s, and Walmart. Goodyear will also be one of only 9 Arizona locations for the ultra-discounted grocery store, Aldi. Aldi also picked Goodyear for its regional distribution center.

A Big, Beautiful Movie Theater

Harkins Theaters in Estrella Falls has 16 very large movie screens and luxury recliner seating for their audience. They also have a meal and cocktail bar in the lobby. When it is really hot in the summer time, seeing a movie is one of the great things to do in Goodyear AZ.

An Array of Great Restaurants

Religious Services for People who Live in Goodyear

Over 30 different churches offer worship services around the town. There is also a synagogue right in Goodyear and 2 others in nearby Sun City (see here and here). Many people in our assisted living and memory care homes really appreciate church services. Unfortunately we don’t know of any mosques in Goodyear. The closest mosque we know about is in Avondale. The churches lots of things to do in Goodyear AZ besides going to worship.

Location

Goodyear sits only 20 minutes west of downtown Phoenix and Sky Harbor Airport. The town has easy access to I-10 to bring you right into Phoenix or head west all the way to Los Angeles. The 303 that also runs right near Goodyear is a wonderfully traffic-free highway that quickly brings you up to the communities of Surprise, Sun City and Sun City West.

Housing

Luke Air Force Base

Although officially in Glendale, It is easy to access Luke from Goodyear. Military retirees who live in Goodyear find the base services very convenient.  People who are not ex-military will still enjoy seeing the array of fighter jets flying overhead. They can see all this military hardware up close during the Luke Days airshow every two years.
